Art and Media Projects

Dense imagery infuses the complex layering that signifies his works. Sherman begins his creative process by extracting elements from selected natural and artificial patterns in photographs he has taken over his years of global travels, then layering and combining forms, with each layer given its own palette defined by its unique shapes, textures, volume, shadows or highlights. Finally, a determination is made whether to extract the resulting forms by applying an extrusion process that gives the image its distinct multi-dimensional look. His works embrace ambiguity; both orientation and interpretation are left to the viewer.

At the core, his works are influenced by Jackson Pollock and Roy Lichtenstein, although Sherman regards his works to be more influenced by two schools of music theory: the first being Contemporary Maximalist, as defined by David Jaffe, that "embraces heterogeneity and allows for complex systems of juxtapositions and collisions, in which all outside influences are viewed as potential raw material”; and the second is the school of New Complexity that encourages "complex, multi-layered interplay of evolutionary processes occurring simultaneously within every dimension".

Stephen Sherman Film and Television Projects

My first script a couple of years ago was runner-up (out of over two thousand entries) in the Creative Screen Writing Magazine Contest and had three film scripts optioned. Working on one of the first game shows to take advantage of the immersive nature of HDTV, social networking and competitive reality game play. Utilizing the recent convergence of key technologies, it is not only cost effective and addictively entertaining, but also has the flexibility to tailor to the interests of, and target, key demographics. Broadcast revolution of not fully relying on the 30 second spot. Creating a new form of advertising through sponsored socially generated content and sponsored content. The viral based game-play rules are intense and target all user touch-points – mobile, web and broadcast HD. The feature-rich web and mobile game-play can be enhanced by a web-based toolkit that allows advertisers and users to create their own feature-rich games and embed them on their own websites.
